Like many of us, I have done sports my whole life.

I was a gymnast from a very young age, then as a teenager and adult, a runner and skier. After the birth of my second son in 2003 I went back to running with the expectation that I would slip quickly back into shape the way I had after my first son was born. I was sorely mistaken. I felt tight and weak in my low back and hips, my hamstrings were too long, I felt very disconnected. It was in an effort to feel better and more balanced that I found Pilates. At first I was very unsure of what it was doing for me, but I knew it was good. I could feel my low back and hip flexors releasing as my hamstrings and abdominals got stronger. As I worked on strengthening my weak parts and stretching my tight ones I was able to maintain my flexibility while also feeling strong and physically centered. Balance!

By 2005 I had entered my first Pilates certification program through The Physicalmind Institute, where I got my mat certification. In 2008 I started my second Pilates certification through Balanced Body University, where I got my apparatus certification. Through the BBU courses, and many hours of observation and practice teaching, I became fully certified. I am a firm believer in continuing education so attend multiple workshops each year to constantly expand my knowledge base. This way I am always learning (which I love) and can then apply my new knowledge to challenge my clients in different, and fun ways!

I feel incredibly fortunate to have found Pilates. Over the years, I have felt in my own body and observed in my client’s, so many benefits. From seemingly small things like having to refit a ski boot because your feet have changed, to coming back from shoulder, hip or knee reconstruction. I have had the honor of working with all kinds of clients; every day regular people, athletes of all sorts, pregnant and post pregnancy women, people with cancer and other illnesses, people with MS and Parkinson’s, people with Osteoporosis. The list goes on and on because anyone can do Pilates.

One of my goals is to use Pilates as a tool to age gracefully. I want this for myself and my clients. I believe Pilates is one of our avenues to good physical and mental health. It is a tool in our arsenal of taking care of ourselves. Also, it feels good, so that’s a bonus! I am so grateful that I am able to pass the virtues of this movement experience on to my clients. If you are at all curious I urge you to give it a try. You will not be sorry!

I look forward to working with you soon.
